A BRIEF HISTORY...
Velvet Grip is a hard-hitting, 4-piece rock band from London, England, comprised of Adam Francis (vocals), Adam Halpin (lead guitar), Marios Dellis (bass guitar), and Liud Carter (drums). Formed in 2022, the band emerged from the remnants of ‘Dirty Ol' Crow’, with drummer Liud Carter and former bassist Dominik Schuttler leading the charge to rebuild. By October 2022, Adam Halpin joined on lead guitar, and the lineup was completed in April 2023 when Adam Francis took on lead vocals. As of July 2024, Marios Dellis joined the band as the new bassist.
Blending hard rock and blues rock with a rebellious twist, Velvet Grip draws inspiration from legendary acts like Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and Rory Gallagher, but their sound is elevated by more eclectic influences like Electric Light Orchestra and Jeff Buckley. This mix has helped Velvet Grip carve a distinct sound in the new wave of classic rock, making them stand out in London’s underground scene.
In 2023, Velvet Grip released their first two singles, Hotel On The Cliff and Let Me Breathe, both accompanied by in-studio music videos filmed during recording sessions at Camden Studios. These releases marked the beginning of their assault on the London rock scene, with electrifying performances at iconic venues such as St Moritz Club, Fiddler’s Elbow, Cart & Horses, and The Dublin Castle.
Currently, the band is in the process of releasing 5 new singles, spanning October 2025 to late 2026. The first singles from the project, Highway Lights, a southern rock anthem with powerful drums, and Kissing Silence, a haunting 40s-style jazz blues track, was released October 2025, while the haunting, hard rock track ‘Wind Chimes’ released in December 2025. Next up is ‘Three Girls’, a more playful & fun track with a 70s rock vibe, which is slated for February 2026.
Determined to make their mark and keep the spirit of classic rock alive, Velvet Grip is connecting with fans who appreciate rock, blues, metal, jazz and everything in between. Their explosive live shows and unique sound ensure they’re a force to be reckoned with in the modern rock scene.
Adam Francis - Vocals
Adam Francis, Velvet Grip’s powerhouse frontman, began his musical journey inspired by the records his father played—most notably the timeless work of Led Zeppelin. His passion for music ignited when he received his first guitar at 10 years old, quickly learning to play Seven Nation Army like many budding musicians. However, it wasn’t until he discovered Nirvana and the 90s grunge scene at age 13 that his interest deepened, pushing him to start writing his own music.
Adam’s musical influences are a blend of 90s grunge and classic rock, drawing inspiration from Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Guns N’ Roses, and Alice In Chains. Before joining Velvet Grip, Adam was the lead vocalist for Lost Lady Luck and later pursued a solo project under the name Von Francis, where he further developed his songwriting and vocal style. Known for his raw, emotionally charged performances, Adam brings both intensity and vulnerability to Velvet Grip, leading the band with a voice that cuts through with gritty power and authenticity.
Adam Halpin - Guitar
Growing up surrounded by a diverse array of music—from 70s punk and new wave to blues, classic rock, and country—Adam Halpin developed a broad musical foundation that fuels his dynamic guitar playing today. His approach is deeply rooted in old-school rock ‘n’ roll but infused with an aggressive metal edge that keeps his style fresh and unpredictable. Whether it’s delivering a face-melting solo or laying down a soulful, bluesy riff, Adam brings intensity and depth to Velvet Grip’s sound. Heavily influenced by legends like Jimmy Page, Dave Mustaine, and Robby Krieger, Adam’s playing stands out with a unique flair that sets him apart in the modern rock scene.
Before joining Velvet Grip, Adam was a key member of State Green and Voodoo, where he honed his craft and stage presence. Additionally Adam holds a degree in Songwriting & Music Production, blending creativity with technical skill. He’s also a black belt in Taekwondo, bringing the same discipline and focus to his martial arts as he does to his music. Adam is always learning new skills—currently teaching himself how to play bass, expanding his musical repertoire even further.
Marios Dellis - Bass
Marios Dellis is the newest member of Velvet Grip, bringing a rich and eclectic sound to the band’s hard rock foundation. Marios’ musical journey began at the age of 12 with an SG guitar in hand, paying homage to early influences like AC/DC and Black Sabbath. His passion quickly expanded as he formed a high school band, where he honed not only his bass skills but also furthered his knowledge of recording and editing. His pursuit of music technology and production deepened his understanding of sound, giving him a unique edge as both a musician and a producer.
With musical influences ranging from old school blues to Seattle grunge, Marios brings a versatile style to Velvet Grip’s lineup. His admiration for rock icons like Led Zeppelin and Pearl Jam has shaped his playing into something both powerful and melodic, adding depth to the band’s sound. Marios' blend of technical expertise and wide-ranging influences makes him a crucial addition to Velvet Grip, infusing the band’s music with a fresh, dynamic edge.
Liud Carter - Drums
Liud Carter is not only the rhythmic backbone of Velvet Grip but also one of the band’s primary songwriters, shaping the core of their sound both behind the kit and in the writing process. His drumming is a unique blend of classic 60s and 70s rock rhythms, with a heavy influence from jazz greats, creating a style that’s both powerful and intricately nuanced. Inspired by legends like Mitch Mitchell, Ginger Baker, Bill Ward, and Keith Moon, Liud adds dynamic swing phrasing and jazz-infused fills to Velvet Grip’s hard-hitting rock foundation. His creative approach and ability to infuse these jazz elements give the band a distinctive groove and energy.
Outside of music, Liud stays physically active through a variety of pursuits. A dedicated gym-goer and martial arts enthusiast, he focuses on strength training and honing his skills in martial arts, using the same discipline and precision that define his drumming style. His passion for physical fitness, combined with his jazz-inspired playing, helps him maintain the stamina and creativity that drive both his music and his life.
